Protein-resistant surfaces are highly desirable in biomedical devices, implants, biosensors, and diagnostic arrays. Surface modifi-cations via thin polymer coatings represent an important tool to provide such antifouling properties. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has been used extensively for this purpose. Oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG), star-shaped PEG, PEG-bearing block-copolymers and graft-copolymers have been employed as the antifouling coatings [1]. Despite the growing body of theoretical and experimental work on these materials, the influence of the molecular framework of PEG on the resistance of protein adsorption has never been reported.
